The National Institutes of Health (NIH) released a report on the Use of Chimpanzees in NIH-Supported Research. This report, titled "Council of Councils Working Group on the Use of Chimpanzees in NIH-Supported Research", from a working group of external agency advisers, concluded that“while the chimpanzee has been a valuable animal model in past research, most current use of chimpanzees for biomedical research is unnecessary.”
